Should I keep waiting for him to get a job?

Jobs are hard to find right now so I might cut him some slack. but....The fact that you are considering this tells me a lot. You said up front that you were never very serious about each other right? So why are you wasting your time? I can tell you that if my husband lost his job I would not even considering kicking him out. I love him too much. It sounds to me that you are with him because you don't know what else to do. I've done the single mom thing and it isn't easy but it was way easier then staring at my daughter's father everyday and growing to despise him more and more.
